Daniel Leconte to develop 'Vol 77'
“Carlos” producer Daniel Leconte is developing “Vol 77” (Flight 77), a docu on the American Airlines plane that crashed into the Pentagon on 9/11.
Produced by Leconte’s Paris-based Doc en Stock and helmed by Christophe Weber, the investigative docu will feature archives, homevideos and interviews with witnesses, politicians and journos.
Project was unveiled Thursday, the closing day of the Mip TV mart in Cannes.
“French polls showed that about 30% of people in France believed that Flight 77 never existed because there were no images of it crashing into the Pentagon,” Leconte said. “My goal is to show people that it did happen and how it happened.”
Doc will be completed in July and will bow on pubcaster France 3 to mark the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks.Leconte is also producing “Pour en finir avec le racisme” (To Put an End to Racism), a doc helmed by thesp-turned-filmmaker, Emmanuel Leconte (“The Tudors”) and Franck Guerin.
A sequel to “Le Big-Bang, mes ancetres et moi,” a hit doc directed by Leconte and Guerin in 2009, “Racism” traces the evolution of mankind from Africa to Europe. “The film will demonstrate that we all share the same gene pool,” said Emmanuel Leconte.
Doc, which comes in two formats — a one-hour or two half-hours — has been pre-sold to Franco-German net Arte.
Daniel Leconte last directed and produced “Le bal des menteurs” (The Liars’ Ball), a film centering on the Clearstream political scandal that involved Gaul’s highest political circles. It bowed in French theaters on March 2. French paybox Canal Plus picked up the doc and will air a four-hour version on April 20.
At Mip TV, Doc en Stock announced sales on “Les 10 Commandements,” a 10-part doc series depicting 10 crimes, which was picked up by TV5 in Canada and TV4 in Sweden; and additional pre-sales on “Terrorism,” a three-part doc helmed by Michael Prazan probing corruption within Gaul’s highest political circles.
