Disney Channel has greenlit development on a sequel to tele-pic “Lemonade Mouth,” as well as a smallscreen movie adaptation of halfhour dance-themed comedy “Shake It Up.”
“Lemonade Mouth,” with a cast including Bridgit Mendler of the cabler’s “Good Luck Charlie” and Naomi Scott of Fox’s upcoming “Terra Nova,” was the No. 1 movie year-to-date for cable in total viewers when it premiered in April and tops among tweens 9-14 in all of television in 2011. Disney Channel had rerun the movie 16 times at last count.
The principal ensemble, which includes Adam Hicks, Hayley Kiyoko and Blake Michael, is expected to reunite for the sequel.
“Shake It Up” is the most-watched series in television among kids 6-11 and 9-14, with close to 2 million viewers in each of those demos. Starring Bella Thorne and Zendaya, the series is on pace to become the No. 1 cable series of all time in the 9-14 demo.
Disney Channel’s summer highlight in original movies will be “Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension,” which will preem Aug. 5 before airing on ABC.
