Net replaced by OWN is rebranded with Fit TV

Discovery is feeling health conscious again.
With the Oprah Winfrey Network taking over Discovery Health as of Jan. 1, the Maryland-based cable conglomerate is rebranding Health by merging it with its own Fit TV. Renamed Discovery Fit & Health, the new network — scheduled to reach 50 million homes — will launch Feb. 1 and be found at the channel location currently occupied by Fit TV.
Many of the former Discovery Health’s programming slate will appear on the new net, including “Dr. G: Medical Examiner,” “I’m Pregnant and …,” “911: The Bronx” and “Untold Stories of the ER.” Net will also acquire programming as well as create its own to boost the lineup.
Discovery Health averaged 51,000 in the women 25-54 demo for total day and 84,000 in primetime in 2010. In OWN’s first week, the rookie cabler drew 66,000 in total day and 129,000 in primetime in the demo.
