‘Cyrano’ remake is music to Disney Channel

'Let It Shine' to adapt tale with 12 original songs

Tyler James Williams will star in Disney Channel original movie “Let It Shine,” a gospel/hip-hop musical adaptation of “Cyrano De Bergerac” that will premiere on the cabler in summer 2012.

Williams (“Everybody Hates Chris”) will play 16-year-old Cyrus — a precocious but self-doubting rapper — opposite Coco Jones as Roxanne. Trevor Jackson will play super-confident dancer Kris, who threatens to steal Roxanne’s heart.

Nicole Sullivan, Courtney B. Vance, Dawnn Lewis and Brandon Mychal Smith co-star in the film, which will feature 12 original songs from artists including Rock Mafia, Toby Gad and David Banner.

Paul Hoen (“Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam”) is directing the Atlanta-based production, from a script written by Don D. Scott and Eric Daniel, for G Wave Prods.
