Episode is most watched in seven years
The eighth season of Larry David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” opened well for HBO Sunday night, garnering 1.7 million viewers in its first showing.
Number was a 53% increase from last season’s debut and the most-watched “Curb” in seven years, but the uptick comes with a caveat: Last season “Curb” was at 9 p.m. and Sunday “Curb” had the benefit of a “True Blood” lead-in. Another 394,000 tuned in for the midnight telecast.
The third episode of the current season for the vampire drama drew 5 million at 9 o’clock, which was just slightly below the fourth-season launch June 26. Some commented that the skein was losing its steam when the second episode only attracted 2.9 million.
However, episode No. 2 was shown on HBO Go and HBO on Demand immediately after the premiere, so many watched but didn’t tune in to the pay cabler when the actual Nielsen numbers were registered.
The 11 p.m. “True Blood” attracted another 1.1 million.
