If you’re looking for action in Germany, look no further than Action Concept.
The Cologne-based shingle has been specializing in Germany’s most action-packed series and TV movies since it exploded onto the scene in 1992.
The company is behind RTL’s “Alarm for Cobra 11,” one of the most popular skeins ever on German television.
With its spectacular high-speed pileups and burning cars soaring through the sky, the high-octane Autobahn cop show has not only topped the ratings in Germany for the past 15 years, but it’s also sold to more than a 100 countries and territories, including China (CCTV), Latin America (LAP TV), France (TF1), Spain (Cuatro and AXN), Italy (RAI and AXN), Poland (TVN) and Turkey (Kanal D).
“The long-running series’ formula is as simple as universal: Start with a bang and put the pedal to the metal for 45 action-packed minutes until the fireball grand finale. The appeal of high-octane action on the fastest roads in the world is worldwide, that’s why we’ve sold” so strongly, says Irina Ignatiew, exec VP, international, at Munich-based Telepool, which is handling international sales for “Cobra 11.”
The recent premiere of “Alarm for Cobra 11’s” latest season attracted nearly 5.1 million viewers, achieving a 21.1 share among its key 14-49 demo.
Established by former stuntman and chief exec Hermann Joha, Action Concept also produces “Lasko: The Fist of God,” about a former elite soldier-turned-roundhouse-kicking Catholic monk. That became another major hit series for RTL when it premiered in 2009.
The action and stunt specialist is one of Europe’s biggest full-service film production companies focusing on action formats. The ambitious stunt-laden projects and sequences that are the company’s hallmark are developed and realized by a specially trained team of stunt professionals: from stunt directors, stunt coordinators, stunt men and women to the special effects crew, action sequence cinematographers and even helicopter pilots.
The studio has also become the go-to company for outside productions looking for second unit stunt teams.
Action Concept’s newest action series, “MEK8,” promises to up the action ante.
The series centers on a top-secret elite squad equipped with the most advanced weapons and surveillance technology who hunt down Europe’s most wanted criminals.
The show will premiere this year on RTL 2 and make its international debut at this year’s Mip TV programming market in Cannes.
