'Sports Show' to premiere in April

Comedy Central has placed an eight-episode order for “Sports Show With Norm Macdonald,” a new series in the vein of “Saturday Night Live” seg “Weekend Update,” but with its sights trained on the sports world.

Program will feature Macdonald riffing on sports in front of a live studio aud, and will begin recording this month with a premiere skedded for April.

“Norm has the uncanny ability to say what I didn’t even realize I was thinking,” said Comedy Central programming head Kent Alterman in a release issued by the net on Wednesday.

Macdonald’s profile on the net is due to increase in the next few months, with his hourlong standup special slated to air March 12. Macdonald was also announced Monday as host for the seventh season of “High Stakes Poker.”

“Sports Show” will be exec produced by Macdonald, Marc Gurvitz, Lori Jo Hoekstra and Jackhole Productions’ Daniel Kellison.
