Fox confirms co-host's departure from show
Cheryl Cole has been X-ed out of “The X Factor,” the network and production companies finally confirmed Monday.
Fox Broadcasting Co., FremantleMedia North America and Syco TV released a joint statement going on the record with what had been rumored for two weeks: Cole was replaced by Nicole Scherzinger, who was initially hired to be a co-host for the series.
With Scherzinger moving to the judges’ table, “Factor” will go with a solo host, Steve Jones, who was hired along with Scherzinger.
The official statement may bring to a close weeks of speculation as to what transpired, with theories explaining Cole’s demise including a thick British accent difficult for U.S. audiences to understand
Fox has yet to indicate what it will do with the footage already shot of Cole serving as judges for the opening rounds of the audition process.
Scherzinger joins Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Antonio “L.A.” Reid as judges for the series, which begins this fall.
