MONTREAL — Maria Hale has been tapped as VP of television, head of programming and production at Corus Entertainment, it was announced Monday.
Corus is one of Canada’s leading cablers, whose channels include youth-skewed YTV, Treehouse and Nickelodeon (Canada) plus OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network (Canada), Sundance Channel (Canada), W Network and Movie Central. It also owns kids TV production company Nelvana.
Hale will be responsible for content production, acquisitions and distribution strategies, reporting to Corus TV prexy Doug Murphy.
Hale was VP of content at Telus, the cell phone service provider, responsible for TV and mobile content acquisition. Before joining Telus, Hale was VP of content business development at broadcaster Chum and held various position at the Toronto company during her eight years there. Hale was most recently at GameTV where she oversaw production and programming initiatives.
She replaces Joanna Webb, who resigned in September.
