After he’s finished exec producing Sunday’s Emmycast, Mark Burnett has another important job to do next week when he and wife Roma Downey serve as co-chairs of the 10th annual Smile Gala, set for Sept. 23 at the Beverly Hilton.
The fundraiser benefits Operation Smile, a non-profit org that provides reconstructive surgery for children born with cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities. Among the honorees are NBC Entertainment prexy Jennifer Salke and her 12-year-old son, Henry, who was born with a cleft lip.
Two years ago, Henry impressed his family and friends by writing a letter urging them to donate to Operation Smile so that other kids could benefit as he did from the surgery that restored his smile. Last month, Jennifer and Henry went on a Operation Smile medical mission to Rio de Janeiro to see the org’s work firsthand.
