Fueled by the success of “The Game,” BET is adding another laffer to its primetime sked this year and loading up on original Web skeins.
BET topper Debra Lee unveiled a range of new programs at the Viacom cabler’s upfront presentation at the Best Buy Theater in Gotham.
The new laffer, “Reed Between the Lines,” stars Tracee Ellis Ross and Malcolm-Jamal Warner in a domestic vehicle about a blended family. Series hails from Kellie R. Griffin (“House of Payne”) and is targeted to bow in the fourth quarter.
Lee unveiled four scripted Web originals that will run across on BET.com and the BET On Demand. “Lennox Avenue” and “The Come Up” are ensemblers revolving around groups of friends; “Odessa” and “Asylum” have a sci-fi/thriller bent.
Among other programming news, BET confirmed the renewals of “The Game” and its half-hour companion “Let’s Stay Together,” both of which will return for new seasons early next year. It also unveiled details of a docu-series, “The Message,” about the cultural impact of hip-hop music, to bow in the third quarter of this year.
