Brit series will run at same time as NBC adaptation
U.S. auds can expect a double dose of halfhour comedy “Free Agents” this fall, with BBC America acquiring the rights to air the original British series that has been adapted for an NBC launch.
NBC’s version, starring Hank Azaria and Kathryn Hahn, is slotted on the upcoming fall sked for 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays. BBC America will air the original series, which features Stephen Mangan (“Episodes”) and Sharon Horgan (“The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret”) Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. beginning Oct. 1, as part of the cabler’s Ministry of Laughs comedy block.
Anthony Head (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) appears in both versions of the series in the same role of Stephen, boss of the lead characters. The original aired on Channel 4 in the U.K. in 2009.
Matthew Justice and Iain Morris exec produced the Blighty version of the series, which had a six-episode run. John Enbom, Todd Holland, Karey Burke, Kenton Allen, Chris Niel and Nira Park (also a producer on the original) exec produce NBC’s adaptation.
