Original Prods. CEO and exec producer Thom Beers will receive the excellence in nonfiction award at the Banff World Media Festival, it was announced Thursday.Since founding Original 14 years ago, Beers has developed more than 40 non-fiction series — such as “Deadliest Catch, “Ice Road Truckers” and “Storage War” — for major cable channels. FremantleMedia purchased a majority stake in the production company in 2009. “Thom Beers has continually reinvented reality television with one international hit after another,” said fest executive director Ferne Cohen. “His unique take on unscripted programming has made him truly one-of-a-kind, and we are proud to be able to recognize his achievement with this award.” Beers will also give an interview June 13 that will be streamed as part of the fest’s industry programming. The fest runs June 12-15.
