America is hungry for food TV. Food Network drew a record-high number of primetime viewers in the third quarter, propelling the channel to No. 8 among all of basic cable.
Food attracted an primetime average of 1.2 million total viewers and 570,000 in the 25-54 demo for the quarter.
Ratings success on the net was driven largely by the cabler’s “Food Network Star” franchise. The reality competition show’s Aug. 14 finale ranked No. 1 in primetime among cablers.
Other franchise competition series including “The Great Food Truck Race” and “Chopped” also delivered solid numbers for the Scripps Network cabler.
Scripps’ flagship cabler was ranked the 14th most valuable cable net by SNL Kagan just over a year ago; the network’s revenue is estimated at $602 million while its value was pegged at about $4.5 billion.
