Asian Pitch selects winning docus

'Shepherds,' 'Horse Fighter,' 'Hunter' greenlit

TOKYO — MediaCorp, NHK and KBS have selected three projects for The Asian Pitch — a regional pitching event for Asian docu-makers, the partners announced on Friday.

The three winners, chosen from nearly 100 submissions and 10 short-listed nominees, will receive full funding from the partners.

Raja Shabir Khan (India), Park Hwan-Sung (South Korea) and Mohammed Redhaudeen Bin Hassan (Malaysia) all plan to quickly launch production and have their docus ready for international broadcast by summer 2012.

Khan’s “Shepherds of Paradise” will follow India’s nomadic shepherds, Park’s “The Bridle of Horse Fighter” will focus on men from the Miao minority involved in the sport of horsefighting, and Bin Hassan’s “The Wild Buffalo Hunter” will examine the lives of wild buffalo hunters in Malaysia.

The Asia Pitch flew the 10 short-listed nominees to Singapore, where they pitched their projects to producers from MediaCorp, NHK and KBS. The program is now in its fifth year.
