AP board taps Westin to run group

Ex-ABC News exec takes reins of News Licensing Group

Former ABC News president David Westin resurfaced in a new position Thursday created by the board of the Associated Press.

Westin, who exited ABC last year after 14 years at the division, has been tapped as CEO of a new company, News Licensing Group, that will serve AP and other news agencies by overseeing the licensing of news for online usage.

AP first announced the formation of News Licensing Group in February with the intent of launching the unit this summer. Westin was replaced by Ben Sherwood, former executive producer for ”Good Morning America.” He first came to ABC in 1991 as general counsel, before shifting to run the news division in 1997.
