Amy Israel joins Showtime as programming exec

Pay cabler looks to reach out to indie film world with hire of film vet

In a sign of the times for pay cable fare, film vet Amy Israel has joined Showtime as senior veep of original programming.

Israel will report to Gary Levine, exec veep of original programming.

“As more and more film actors, writers, directors and producers want to work at Showtime, it makes perfect sense to hire a creative exec from the feature world,” said Levine. “Amy has done great work in the indie film world and we are thrilled for her to bring her strong relationships with distinctive filmmakers to Showtime. Amy’s taste, talent, charisma and experience make her a perfect complement to our existing senior creative staff.”

Israel has most recently worked as an exec producer on the upcoming Andrew Niccol drama “In Time,” starring Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried and Olivia Wilde.

She was previously exec veep of production at New Regency, and before that she led the production and acquisitions departments at Paramount Vantage and Miramax Films.

Among the projects she oversaw during her tenure at Paramount Vantage were “No Country for Old Men,” “There Will Be Blood,” “Into The Wild” and “Defiance.”
