Soap strikes deal to play with buzzy 'Cleveland' comedy
“All My Children” is looking to grab some of “Hot in Cleveland’s” sizzle.ABC’s veteran daytime soap has struck a deal for crossover segs with TV Land’s buzzy comedy, playing off one of the “Cleveland” character’s connection to the soap world. “Cleveland” star Wendie Malick plays a former soap star on the laffer. In its first season, “Children’s” Susan Lucci did a guest shot as herself on “Cleveland,” positioned as a longtime rival of Malick’s Victoria Chase. That storyline will continue in the Feb. 16 and Feb. 23 segs of “Cleveland,” which will feature guest shots from Lucci and “Children’s” Michael E Knight and Darnell Williams. The plot thread will wrap up on the Feb 24 episode of “Children.” The crossover was proposed by ABC. It’s rare for such an elaborate stunt to play out on networks that are not under the same corporate roof. “This is a unique opportunity to raise awareness of both shows with similar demos,” said Brian Frons, prexy of daytime for Disney/ABC TV Group.
