Al Jazeera nabs ‘Jungle Book’

Arabic service to air toon on kids channel JCCTV

LONDON — Al Jazeera’s kids channel JCCTV has signed agreements with Indian animation house DQ Ent. for broadcasting rights of toons “The Jungle Book,” “The New Adventures of Lassie” and “Mysteries and Feluda.”

The Arabic-language versions of these shows will be available across 22 Arab states where JCCTV has its footprint. The deal will give JCCTV exclusive TV rights for five years.

The Jungle Book,” which updates Rudyard Kipling’s characters, is a DQE co-production with France’s TF1 and Moonscoop and Germany’s ZDF Group.

“The New Adventures of Lassie,” a contemporary version of Eric Knight’s canine tale, is co-developed by DQE with Classic Media in the U.S. and Super Prod. in France.

“Feluda,” based on a series of Bengali detective novels and short stories written by Satyajit Ray, is a DQE in-house production.
