A&E’s ‘Breakout Kings’ has debut date

A&E has set March 13 for the premiere of its newest scripted series, “Breakout Kings.”Laz-alonso

Cabler had success with rookie drama “The Glades” last year and is going ahead with more scripted programming, even though the net’s bread and butter has always been its healthy reality slate. A&E, which never received much traction with “The Beast” and “The Cleaner,” has long looked for a balance between the two worlds.

“Breakout Kings” stars Laz Alonso and Domenick Lombardozzi as U.S. marshals who work with a group of convicts to catch fugitives on the run.

Show comes from exec producers Matt Olmstead and Nick Santora, who were the writers and exec producers of former Fox series “Prison Break.” The two exec produce with Peter Chernin, Katherine Pope and Gavin Hood.

A&E has also picked up a second season of reality skein “Storage Wars.” Production on 20 new episodes is currently underway.

“Storage Wars” focuses on people who bid in auctions for undisclosed materials inside a storage unit. Following its Dec. 1 preem, series has been averaging 3.2 million viewers per episode.

Thom Beers’ Original Prods. produces. Beers is exec producer with Philip D. Segal, Robert Sharenow and Elaine Frontain.

Also, net announced it’s in production on one-hour “Relapse,” a look at addicts who try to break their addictions. Show, from GRB Prods., will debut in the second quarter this year.
