Iceland, UNTV get first noms

The Intl. Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has announced the eight Intl. Emmy nominees for this year’s Current Affairs and News categories.

UNTV’s “21st Century: Cambodia — A Quest for Justice,” Discovery Networks Latin America’s “The Assassination of Jean Charles Meneses,” Japanese pubcaster NHK’s “Back from the Brink: Inside the Chilean Mine Disaster” and Germany’s infonetwork’s “Unter Piraten,” make up the Current Affairs nominees.

TV Globo’s “Jornal Nacional: War on Drugs,” RUV Icelandic National Broadcasting Service’s “RUV News: Volcano Eruption at Eyjafjallajokull,” Sky News’ “Sky News Live at Five: Inside the Taliban” and Philippines’ ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp.’s “TV Patrol: Manila Hostage Crisis,” are all nominated for the News category.

It’s the first nomination for a News program from Iceland and a Current Affairs program from UNTV.

The winners will be announced Sept. 26 at the Frederick P. Rose Hall of Jazz at the Lincoln Center in New York.
