Drama based on indie pic 'The Jones' acquired

ABC will develop an hourlong drama project based on 2009 indie film “The Joneses” from Liz Tigelaar and Gary Fleder via ABC Studios.

Under the same title, the adaptation of the Derrick Borte film starring Demi Moore and David Duchovny will follow members of a seemingly All-American family that moves into an upscale suburb — but who aren’t at all what they pretend to be.

The premise dovetails with ABC’s frequent sardonic forays into the myths and realities of upper-class/suburban life, whether through veteran series like “Desperate Housewives” or 2011-12 freshmen “Suburgatory,” “GCB” and “Revenge.”

Fleder and Mary Beth Basile of Mojo Films will exec produce with Tigelaar along with the film’s original producers, Echo Lake Prods.

Tigelaar, Fleder and Basile worked together on the CW’s “Life Unexpected,” which ran for 26 episodes on the CW. Tigelaar’s past credits also include ABC’s “Brothers and Sisters.”
