Series to get third season after strong showings on Thursdays

ABC has renewed summer drama “Rookie Blue” for a third season, with production to begin in Toronto later this summer.

Starring Missy Peregrym, “Rookie” has been No. 1 in primetime at 10 p.m. Thursdays in each of its first three original airings this year, with the June 23 season premiere giving ABC its best numbers with regular programming in the timeslot since 2008.

The series also airs on Global Television in Canada and internationally on Universal Networks Intl.’s pay TV channels.

Tassie Cameron, Ilana Frank, Noreen Halpern, John Morayniss and David Wellington exec produce “Rookie,” which was developed by Thump and produced with Entertainment One. Gregory Smith, Charlotte Sullivan, Enuka Okuma, Travis Milne, Ben Bass and Eric Johnson co-star.
