Legal drama, Jim Belushi laffer to be developed through ABC Studios

ABC has acquired from ABC Studios an untitled legal drama project from writer Jenna Bans, with network favorites Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers also exec producing.

Separately, ABC confirmed that it has given a put pilot commitment to “You Won’t Even Know I’m Here,” a comedy from Diane English to star Jim Belushi.

Bans, who emerged from Rhimes’ “Grey Anatomy” and “Private Practice” to become exec producer of last season’s “Off the Map” for ABC, is the writer on the new project, about a high-powered Minneapolis lawyer who gets fired (under mysterious circumstances) and starts his own firm as a defense attorney, accompanied by an eclectic batch of colleagues.

In addition to Bans, Rhimes and Beers are exec producing through the Shondaland shingle.

Rhimes has been busy so far this development season. She’s also spearheading drama “Gilded Lillys,” from scribe K.J. Steinberg, set at a luxury hotel in the late 19th century.

The English-Belushi laffer hails from ABC Studios and Brillstein Entertainment Partners. The multicam vehicle revolves around a father and his teenage daughter whose relationship is turned upside down when they face what is described as a “unique situation.”
