ABC gives pilot order to ‘Suburgatory’

Single-camera laffer comes from WBTV, scribe Emily Kapnek

It’s that pilot pickup time of year: ABC has given a pilot order to single-camera laffer “Suburgatory” from scribe Emily Kapnek. TNT has picked up a drama from John Sacret Young and Robert Redford’s Wildwood Enterprises that centers on a Southern family.

Warner Bros. TV project is a satirical look at life in the suburbs, through the eyes of a quintessential New Yorker. She discovers that life outside Gotham is more frightening that any horror movie.

Kapnek’s recent credits include NBC’s “Parks and Recreation” and HBO’s “Hung.” She previously fielded the short-lived ABC laffer “Emily’s Reasons Why Not.”

The Young project at TNT incorporates flashbacks from 20 and 40 years before. Young and Redford exec produce along with Bill Holderman. Project was ordered some time ago on a cast-contingent basis.
