ABC developing BBC comedy adaptation

Handler to exec produce remake of 'Vivienne Vyle'

ABC Studios and BBC Worldwide Prods. are developing a potential ABC adaptation of BBC laffer “The Life and Times of Vivienne Vyle” that will have Chelsea Handler among its exec producers.

Jennifer Saunders (“Absolutely Fabulous”) will consult on the adaptation of the 2007 series she starred in and co-created with Tanya Byron, revolving around the quartet of a female talkshow host, her husband, the show’s producer, and a psychologist hired to make the trains run on time.

Handler and Tom Brunelle will exec produce for Borderline Amazing Prods., while Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner will do the same for BBC Worldwide Prods. Bill Martin and Mike Schiff (“3rd Rock From the Sun,” “Grounded for Life”) will write the pilot.

Handler and Brunelle are also among the exec producers of another sitcom, “Are You There, Chelsea?” headed for a Jan. 11 premiere on NBC. That series is based on the book by Handler, herself an E! TV personality, with Laura Prepon starring.
