Darkness (and Beavis) permeates fall cable fare

Fall TV Preview 2011-12: Cable networks

It’s nostalgia time at the non-broadcast nets, which are tapping some old favorites for new projects.

Claire Danes, Rosie O’Donnell, and even Beavis and Butt-Head are back on TV. And the revival of the Western comes courtesy of AMC. Once the king of cringe with his wicked “Nip/Tuck,” ”Glee” creator Ryan Murphy goes back to the dark side this October with “American Horror Story” on FX.

Here’s a look at some of what’s new this fall on cable:

“Homeland”
(Showtime, premiering Oct. 2)
Claire Danes plays a CIA agent convinced that a released POW (Damian Lewis) is now a terrorist operative.

“American Horror Story”

Chilling series about a family (Connie Britton, Dylan McDermott, Taissa Farmiga) who move into a haunted house. Jessica Lange co-stars as the creepy neighbor.

“Rosie”

“Enlightened”
(HBO, Oct. 10)

“Five” (Lifetime, Oct. 10)
