Basketball challenge raises coin for charity

Earvin “Magic” Johnson and Alonzo Mourning hosted its 6th annual Zo & Magic’s 8-Ball Challenge held at J.W. Marriot in downtown L.A..

“I am proud to be part of this event to raise money for my foundation and for Alonzo Mourning Charities,” said Johnson. “We’re expecting to give scholarships to 22 high school students for college and thank everyone who came out to support this great cause.”

Tichina Arnold emceed the round-robin style celebrity billiards pool tournament as DJ Biz Markie manned the turntables.

The event featured competitors such as Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets, Paul Pierce of the Boston Celtics and basketball legend Julius “Dr. J” Erving.

The event usually raises more than $1 million for the Magic Johnson Foundation and Alonzo Mourning Charities, which award students with college scholarships. Celebs that came out to show their support included Hill Harper, Larenz Tate, Lamman Rucker, Gabrielle Union, Arsenio Hall, Shaun Robinson, Rodney and Holly Robinson Peete.
