Zodiak sells ‘Being Human’ worldwide

Syfy mutation of skein travels to several territories

The U.S. version of Brit TV drama “Being Human” — the story of three paranormal roommates, a vampire, ghost and werewolf — which bowed on Syfy Monday, is shaping up to be a promising international property.

Zodiak Rights has concluded pre-sales of the 13-part skein in several territories. They include Tele Munchen for all German-speaking territories; SPE Networks Asia for Asia; AXN in Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia; DBS in Israel; Media Vera in Turkey; and AXN Sci-Fi in Italy, Sony Pictures Television’s new web due to bow in April.

Meanwhile, Zodiak Rights has concluded a deal with eOne for the U.S. digital and homevid rights to “Being Human.”

The U.S. adaptation is produced by Muse Entertainment in Canada for Syfy in the U.S. and CTV/Space in Canada. Original show, created by “Doctor Who” scribe Toby Whithouse, was produced by Touchpaper Television, one of the shingles owned by Zodiak Media Group.

The U.K. version of “Being Human,” aired locally by youth-skewed channel BBC3, has sold to more than 40 territories, including France (France 4), Spain (Cuatro, Fox), Belgium (VLT, Fox), Sweden (SVT), Norway (NRK), Australia (ABC), U.S. (BBC America), Canada (CBC, CTV) and Brazil (Globosat).
