Shephered 'Xena,' 'Hercules' at Universal TV

Writer-producer Dan Filie died suddenly Jan. 13 in Studio City, Calif. He was 56.

As senior VP of drama development at Universal Television he shepherded such syndie hits as “Hercules” and “Xena: Warrior Princess.”

He was also director of current drama at NBC and a program developer at ABC.

More recently he wrote an episode for Starz’s “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” as well as horror spoof “Frankenhood,”

Survivors include a son and a brother.

Donations may be made in his name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at StJude.org.

Services will be held at 5 p.m. Jan. 18 at Forest Lawn, the Old North Church, Hollywood Hills. Following the service there will be a reception at 22730 Hartland St. West Hills, CA 91307. Call 818-667-8342 for more details.
