Variety boosts TV coverage

Sam Thielman boosted to full-time reporter

Variety is beefing up its TV coverage by promoting Sam Thielman to the position of full-time reporter.

Based in New York, Thielman will cover TV news, various cablers and other media companies based on the East Coast.

Thielman has been working on a freelance basis for the paper since 2007, covering television as well as film, theater and publishing. His past experience includes work for Newsday, Publishers Weekly and Back Stage.

“Sam has worked tirelessly to help drive Variety’s TV coverage out of New York,” Variety group editor Timothy M. Gray said. “We’re pleased that he will have even more opportunity to be a regular presence as we continue to augment our expert TV coverage.”

Thielman and recently hired television editor Andrew Wallenstein assume their new roles today.

They join Variety deputy editor Cynthia Littleton, columnist Brian Lowry, ratings reporter and news editor Rick Kissell and features editors and TV reporters Stuart Levine and Jon Weisman in providing round-the-clock TV coverage for Variety in print and online.
