Tribune consolidates broadcasting unit

Nils Larsen named CEO of Tribune Broadcasting

Tribune Co. has consolidated the management of its broadcasting unit, naming Nils Larsen as CEO of Tribune Broadcasting.

The move eliminates the prexy position previously held by Jerry Kersting, who has left the company.

Larsen has served as chairman of the broadcasting wing since October, when Tribune shook up its top ranks following the ouster of Randy Michaels as CEO.

The streamlining of Tribune Broadcasting is among the first major moves by Eddy Hartenstein, who heads Tribune’s Los Angeles Times unit, since his elevation earlier this month to Tribune Co. CEO.

The perf of Tribune Broadcasting’s 23 TV stations and WGN America cabler has been a bright spot for the Chicago-based newspaper and TV station owner, which has been entangled in complex bankruptcy proceedings since December 2008.
