‘Treme’ actor found dead

Michael Showers' body found in river

Actor Michael Showers, who recurred on the HBO drama “Treme,” was found dead in the Mississippi River off New Orleans’ French Quarter on Wednesday morning. He was 45. Showers’ cause of death has not yet been disclosed by police.

His body was initially misidentified as that of a man who had jumped off a nearby bridge.

In “Treme,” a series about life in post-Katrina New Orleans, Showers played police captain John Guidry.

Showers guested on the smallscreen in CW hit series “The Vampire Diaries” and AMC’s “Breaking Bad.” Film credits include Steven Soderbergh’s “Traffic” (2000); “I Love You Phillip Morris,” starring Jim Carrey; Terrence Malick’s “The Tree of Life,” currently in theaters; and “Colombiana,” which opens Friday, Aug. 26. The actor had racked up minor roles in 20 films, some made for video, since 2007.
