Shine enters Spain, Portugal

Macarena Rey to head Shine Iberia

Elisabeth Murdoch’s Shine Group is setting up a Spanish and Portuguese arm.

Shine Iberia will be led by the director general of BocaBoca Prods., Macarena Rey, as CEO.

The new shingle will originate content and make local adaptations of existing Shine content across Spain and Portugal.

Rey joins in July and will assemble a management team from local talent.

Shine Group CEO and chairman Elisabeth Murdoch said, “As a strategy we continue to bring amazing, respected, creative and entrepreneurial talent to lead our establishment in key territories and further complement the Shine Group as a whole. Macarena has these very attributes and more.”

Added Rey, “The Spanish market is in need of new and successful formats, especially in factual entertainment, and Shine Group has these. I look forward to getting underway and establishing Shine as a production force across Spain and Portugal.”

U.K.-based Shine, which was recently sold to News Corp. for a reported £415 million ($680 million), runs 26 shingles including U.S. production company Reveille, and others in France, Germany, Australia and Scandinavia. Its U.K. shingles are Dragonfly, Kudos, Princess and Shine TV.

Rey has run BocaBoca since 2008. She worked previously at Drive Group where she held a similar role.

She has also been director of production at the in-house production arm of Gallic pay TV platform Canal Plus, and director of media content for Spain’s Telefonica, where she was responsible for international co-productions on TV movies, plus series with HBO and Fireworks.
