LONDON — Discovery Networks Intl. has tapped another experienced U.K. webhead as it beefs up its global editorial activities still further.
Rosemary Newell, a 13-year veteran at Channel 4 until she quit in November 2010, has joined the cable giant as project director of content operations, reporting to chief content officer Luis Silberwasser.
The company said Newell “will provide operational support to DNI across the world on all global content supply including the Discovery U.S. output deal and Discovery program acquisitions.”
Additionally, the exec will be responsible for managing commissioning and operations for the DNI production and development group, working with content topper Julian Bellamy’s team in London and beyond.
Newell’s responsibilities at Channel 4, where she worked with Bellamy, included managing the $800 million program budget, overseeing schedules and the core service plus the broadcaster’s digital channel portfolio. Silberwasser said, “Rosemary has strong operational experience of the broadcast sector, which will be invaluable to us as we expand our new content development hub.” Before Channel 4, Newell was a scheduler at the BBC.
