E! is close to naming Kolb as new topper

Network vet will likely fill position left by Harbert

E! will likely name Suzanne Kolb as its new president.

While Bonnie Hammer, chairman of NBCU Cable Entertainment and Cable Studios, is currently in Los Angeles and continues to interview prospective prexys, Kolb has long been a leading candidate.

The top post at E! has been open for several months. Following the merger between E! parent company Comcast and NBC-Universal, former network topper Ted Harbert is now chairman of NBC Broadcasting.

Kolb is an E! vet, having been at the cabler since 2005, and is verywell-respected by her peers. Kolb’s current position is president of marketing, news and online for both E! and Style. Responsibilities include heading up the news division and focusing on brand strategies.

In both her current job and previous position as chief marketing officer, Kolb has put together campaigns for some of E!’s most popular shows, including “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” several other “Kardashian” spinoffs, “Chelsea Lately” and “Kendra.”

Prior to joining E! and Style, Kolb served as exec VP of marketing at the WB. Skeins under her watch included “Dawson’s Creek,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Smallville” and “Gilmore Girls.”

Gotham-based Hammer is flying cross country often these days as she continues to get comfortable with the femme-skewing network that was put in her portfolio following the merger.
