Celestial sets up Taiwan office

Jeffrey Soong to serve as managing director

BEIJING — China’s Celestial Pictures has set up an office in Taiwan in response to the expanding biz there and named industry vet Jeffrey Soong as managing director.

Celestial, which also operates regional pay TV channels, said it would use its presence in the self-ruled island to expand distribution of its channels, develop film and TV series co-productions, explore new-media licensing opportunities and raise its profile in Taiwan’s biz.

“Taiwan’s important role in Chinese entertainment is unquestioned and, as a Chinese content company, it is imperative we have a local presence there,” said Celestial CEO Ross Pollack. – — Clifford Coonan
