‘Boardwalk,’ ‘Glee’ vie for BAFTA

Satcaster BSkyB picks up six nominations

“Boardwalk Empire” is competing against “Glee,” “Mad Men” and Scandinavian crime saga “The Killing” for the international prize at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts’ TV awards.

“Mad Men” has triumphed at BAFTA’s TV kudofest for the past two years.

In the actor category, “Doctor Who” star Matt Smith was nommed alongside Jim Broadbent, who starred in Channel 4 drama “Any Human Heart,” Benedict Cumberbatch for his perf as Sherlock Holmes in BBC1’s rebooted “Sherlock,” and Daniel Rigby, who played British comic Eric Morecambe in the BBC4 biopic “Eric and Ernie.”

For actress, Anna Maxwell Martin, who starred in BBC1 period saga “South Riding,” is up against Vicky McClure, for her perf in Channel 4’s “This Is England ’86,” Natalie Press, who played a prostitute in BBC1’s “Five Daughters,” and Juliet Stevenson, featured in Jimmy McGovern’s BBC1 crime drama “Accused.”

Awards presentation takes place May 22 at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel.
