Chief programmer leaves after a year
Marisa Badia resigned as chief programmer at Telefe, one of Argentina’s top two broadcasters, late Wednesday.
Telefe said the exec quit for “personal and professional reasons” and that she would take on different duties at the broadcaster.
Telefe has yet to name a replacement.
A veteran producer at the network, Badia took the top programming position after Claudio Villarruel and Bernarda Llorente ended their 10-year reign at the end of 2009 to form their own production company.
Badia struggled to maintain Telefe’s long-running ratings lead, slipping behind Artear-Canal 13 for months on end as its main rival bet on popular variety program and dance competition show “ShowMatch.”
Badia’s wager on sibling-struggle drama “Cain and Abel” last year failed to meet expectations, leading her to drop the program and bring forward a new edition of “Big Brother.”
The reality show and comedy “Un ano para recordar” (A Year to Remember) are struggling in primetime against Canal 13’s secret-agent drama “Los Unicos” and telenovela “Herederos de una venganza” (Heirs to a Revenge).
