Streisand feted at pre-Grammy event
The Recording Academy’s MusiCares event that honored Barbra Streisand on Friday night drew record attendance of 2,500, grossing approximately $4,750,000, also the event’s largest figure to date.
The non-profit org is dedicated to assisting musicians in need.
Coming off of an 11-year high in ratings for Sunday night’s Grammy telecast, Recording Acad president-CEO Neil Portnow trumpeted the twin successes.
“You want to be able to present names and personalities that become irresistible in terms of selling tickets and tables and (program) ads,” Portnow told Variety prior to the MusiCares gala. “Who better than Barbra Streisand? No one.”
Attendees at the Friday night fundraiser included past MusiCares honoree Stevie Wonder as well as Barry Manilow, Prince, Leona Lewis, Tony Bennett, Diana Krall, Herbie Hancock andvarious “Glee” cast members.
