Platform offers exposure to international music acts online and on-air

Viacom’s MTV World has announced the launch of its global music platform, dubbed MTV Iggy, which will seek to expose international music acts to U.S. audiences through its website and on-air programming.

The platform will debut on-air on Oct. 17, with half-hour world music spotlight “The MTV Iggy Show” airing on mtvU. Other iterations of the platform will have presences on MTV and MTV2.

Additionally, the platform is sponsoring international band competition “The Best New Band in the World,” which will climax with a live performance broadcast on Nov. 10.

As MTV World’s senior vice president and general manager Nusrut Durrani said in a statement: “Today’s music fans live in an astoundingly connected world where pop music is without borders; Latin American audiences love K-Pop and rappers from the Congo are finding fans in Belgium. …MTV Iggy offers a U.S. stage for artists who are catching fire around the globe.”

MTV World also encompasses Korean-oriented MTV K, and India-centric MTV Desi.
