Celebs come out for MTV's Video Music Awards
This year’s MTV VMAs started out as a drag — literally. Lady Gaga opened the show in menswear as her male alter-ego, Jo Calderone, and discussed what it’s like to date Gaga, the pop superstar: “She’s fucking crazy. … She gets out of the bed, puts on the heels. She goes into the bathroom, I hear the water go on. She comes out of the bathroom dripping wet, she’s still got the heels on!”
As the show got under way at L.A.’s Nokia Theater, opposites attracted on stage. Paul Rudd and rapper Rick Ross joked about being constantly mistaken for one another, and Cloris Leachman took to the awards podium with the ladies of “Jersey Shore,” inquiring about “hotties” who would be “DTF.” Meanwhile, security stayed busy during performances and acceptance speeches, sweeping rogue stage-rushing fans away from stars like Kanye West and Justin Bieber.
Golden couple Beyonce and Jay-Z both performed during the live show, and at the end of Beyonce’s performance she took a moment to silently announce her pregnancy by turning to the cameras and rubbing her little bump, causing the audience — and Twitter feeds — to erupt with excitement.
