Hollywood Bowl on a roll

Inducts Connick, Estefan into its Hall of Fame

The Hollywood Bowl opened Friday, inducting Harry Connick Jr. and Gloria Estefan into its Hall of Fame. Introducing Connick, Hilary Swank said, “I can’t think of someone I admire more, except for maybe Clint Eastwood. But I haven’t seen Harry ride a horse yet.”

Connick took the stage, apparently overwhelmed by Cirque du Soleil, which had just performed excerpts from its new show “Iris.”

“My voice cracked a couple of times when I came on, and I don’t care,” he began. “It’s not like I’m performing brain surgery; if you make a mistake, it’s OK. But I was thinking, for Cirque du Soleil, what’s the equivalent to cracking a note for them? You die!”

Later, Andy Garcia introduced Estefan and played the bongos.
