Arts + Labor kicks off SXSW documentary

Shingle pairs with history center to unearth unseen footage

Arts+Labor has launched production on a South by Southwest documentary, chronicling the 25-year history of the festival.

Production will include archived footage from the SXSW organization. Producers are working with the Austin History Center to uncover film, video, and print coverage about the conference.

The documentary will include previously unseen footage of Johnny Cash, Pete Townsend, Iggy Pop and dozens of other performers.

Alan Berg, co-founder of Arts+Labor, is the film’s director. Berg won his first Emmy for a 30-minute documentary called “South by Southwest: The Business of Music” in 1994.

Jason Wehling, winner of the John Cassavetes Independent Spirit Award for “August Evening,” is producing. Project’s due to be completed in March with release plans not yet set.
