A trio of British TV series will make their U.S. debut on Hulu.
“Misfits,” “The Whites” and “The Booth at the End” are all coming to the streaming service and its subscription component, Hulu Plus, this summer as a result of exclusive firstrun deals.
Andy Forssell, senior VP of content acquisition and distribution, expects the skeins to resonate with the Hulu audience. “These are shows that developed a rabid fan base online, and we’re excited about introducing them to our viewership,” he said.
Produced by Clerkenwell Films for Channel 4 and distributed by BBC Worldwide, “Misfits” is a drama about teenagers with superpowers. The first two episodes of the first season premieres on Hulu on June 20.
Psychological thriller “Booth,” produced by Vuguru, debuts July 11. Produced by BBC and distributed by Content Media Corp., “Whites,” a comedy set in a hotel kitchen, premieres July 20.
Hulu has been steadily increasing a flow of acquisitions that don’t come from its owners, NBCUniversal, Walt Disney Co. and News Corp. Originals that have had a firstrun window on Hulu include “The LXD” and “Genuine Ken.”
Hulu is in discussions with its owners about renewing the licensing deals that keep top U.S. TV series on the service.
