In the first glimpse of U.S. viewership of the royal wedding, CBS, ABC and NBC drew more than 20 million viewers for their primetime highlight specials on Friday.
CBS averaged 8.6 million viewers with its 8-9 pm special. NBC’s two-hour “Dateline” brought in 4.9 million viewers while ABC’s wedding special edition of “20/20” delivered 6.7 million in the same slot.
CBS and ABC were well above their season averages for their respective time slots. NBC was down a bit.
More detailed ratings for the broadcast nets’ live coverage of the royal wedding in the wee hours of Friday morning will be released later today.
E! reported that its website logged a new single-day record for page views on Friday thanks to its royal wedding coverage. The site logged 23.6 million page views and 1.5 million unique users for its nuptials-related material and live stream of the ceremony in Westminster Abbey.
