“Putting aside the value to society, I really believe that with education comes dignity,” DreamWorks’ Stacey Snider told the audience gathered for Variety’s Power of Women luncheon gathering. “That’s what we’re all entitled to.”
Snider and five other honorees attended the Sept. 23 event to champion their individual charities while receiving an honor for their contribution to philanthropy and female empowerment. Snider attended on behalf of City Year; she recently partnered with CAA to help jeans manufacturer J Brand launch a fundraising initiative to benefit the nonprofit org, which benefits literacy programs.
DreamWorks Animation’s Jeffrey Katzenberg kicked off the luncheon, while director Adam Shankman hosted the proceedings at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.
In addition to Snider, the gathering honored Mary J. Blige, Olivia Wilde, Annette Bening, Eva Longoria and Lea Michele for their charitable work and contributions to female empowerment, and each woman also received an intro from speakers including Donna Langley, Demi Moore, Hugh Jackman, Angela Lansbury and Dana Walden.
The event also recognized Lisa Williams, a L’Oreal Woman of Worth honoree and founder of Living Water for Girls, which aids victims of sexual exploitation. – — Rachel Abrams
