International unit promotes Baker, Honeycutt
Discovery Networks Intl. added exec VP stripes for chief financial officer Doug Baker and named John Honeycutt exec VP-chief operating officer on Thursday.
It also unveiled program pickups from eOne and the bow of Travel & Living Channel in Latin America.
The exec announcement was made by DNI prexy-CEO Mark Hollinger, to whom Baker and Honeycutt will report.
“John and Doug both possess keen strategic vision that has been invaluable to growing Discovery’s aggressive and successful international business,” Hollinger said. “With their combined leadership, we have created a streamlined and dynamic organization with much greater transparency — enhancing collaboration and growth opportunities in each region and DNI as a whole.”
As COO, Honeycutt works with Hollinger and the four regional prexys and managing directors in formulating strategies across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific and Latin America.
He also leads the coordination of DNI’s corporate support services. In addition, he manages centralized strategy and research functions while overseeing DNI’s digital media business and the operations team for Discovery Enterprises Intl.
Honeycutt works closely with Discovery’s international programming, ad and affiliate sales teams to help develop business strategy, share critical business information and best practices to drive the growth of DNI’s business.
With more than 20 years’ domestic and international financial management experience, Baker leads all financial aspects of DNI. He serves as a key strategic partner to Hollinger and the regional presidents and managing directors.
He has also been asked to spearhead the division’s efforts in growing cross-regional international ad sales.
Baker joined Discovery in 2005 as CFO for Discovery Commerce, coming from Hallmark, where he held a variety of financial, operating and strategic roles. Honeycutt joined Discovery in 2003 from Fox Cable Networks in Los Angeles, serving as senior VP of broadcast operations.
Meanwhile, DNI picked up a number of unscripted programs from Entertainment One for Italy, Spain, the Middle East, Africa and Central and Eastern Europe.
Shows include “Party Mamas,” “Mega Builders,” “Scrappers,” “The Pig Farm,” “The Real Mash” and “Storming Juno.”

DNI will bow Travel & Living Channel in Latin America on Nov. 1 in 38 countries, reaching 26 million subscribers. Formerly Discovery Travel & Living, TLC will unveil a new logo, an updated on-air look and a strengthened programming slate.
