Int'l arm to distribute content via BSkyB, Virgin Media

Discovery Networks Intl. has pacted to distribute 3D content via BSkyB and Virgin Media in the U.K., as well as J:Com in Japan. Deals rep the first international 3D agreements signed by Discovery will go into effect beginning next month in the U.K.

Included in the agreements are some original commissions: 10 60-minute episodes of Renegade Prods.’ “3D Safari” and hourlong special “Beautiful Freaks,” from Tigress Prods. (both in the U.K.). In Japan, the deal covers content already aired in the U.S.: Discovery’s “Ghost Lab” and Animal Planet’s “The Haunted” will air on J:Com.

Pact also covers programming from Discovery/Imax/Sony joint venture 3net, the companies’ 3D cabler in the U.S., with the first 3net shows skedded for international distribuition to be 10 hourlongs of extreme sports show “High Octane,” produced by Electric Sky.
