Williams knows the scene
Robin Williams, who plays the feline title character in “Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo,” has some real-world experience of Baghdad to draw on, he said at the show’s opening night party Thursday at Gotham venue Espace.
Williams has visited Iraq in multiple stints with the USO. So when the characters in Rajiv Joseph’s play talk about the tastelessly ornate palaces of the Hussein family, he knows exactly whereof they speak.
“If Hitler had built Graceland, it’d be like that,” he said. “I mean, even cocaine dealers would think, ‘This is some tacky shit.’ “
